A very good and wise point. Today for sure, we need transparency. Perhaps that was Jacob's major concern. But remember in this case Jacob's sons were a minority and didn't have much room to maneuver.

Yelamdenu Rabbenu. In your earlier vlog regarding the legitimacy of the war and the high civilian casualties, you quoted the Rambam siding with Shimon and Levi, justifying the murder of the community of Schem, reasoning that a community that does not police it's own laws is liable. Shimon and Levi took their punitive action after an agreement had been made between Yakov and Schem, amd Schem was disabled due to the terms of the agreement. Is the Rambam justifying making an agreement for strategic purposes only to violate it brutally shortly afterwards? This sounds very much like the Islamic strategic phenomena of making a false peace for the sake of further aggression. Can you extricate Rambam's decision from his proof?
